Best Non-Russell Group Uni

(5)·By Evie D·Law· Jun 2026
I was reluctant to go to Royal Holloway as it isn't a Russell Group university and it's also known to be 'in the middle of nowhere,' so I was worried about the social life. However, I have made friends for life and I am really enjoying the course. They host many events that help keep me social and offer a lot of academic opportunities. I'm yet to finish my first year, but I am very glad I chose this university. The halls are also amazing and extremely spacious.

Royal Holloway

(5)·By Sodaba R·Accounting· Jun 2026
The university is amazing; I love my accommodation—it’s perfect. Maintenance is always high. Social life is good, with weekly parties, and the course is also very good, taught by teachers with past accounting experience from ACCA. Their career advice and support are excellent, offering almost monthly fairs for placements, internships, and jobs. I really do enjoy Royal Holloway.

Our flat is great, and I've met lots of really nice people. The campus feels safe, and the course is interesting too.

Full of opportunities

(5)·By Reuben S·Economics· Jun 2024
In 2023, my economics journey at Royal Holloway was incredibly enriching. I delved into the world of R code, unlocking powerful tools for in-depth economic analysis. The year opened doors to exciting ventures, offering me multiple opportunities to apply my skills in business settings, including impactful projects with the NHS. This experience not only honed my analytical abilities but also showcased the practical applications of economics in the real world. Royal Holloway truly provided a dynamic and hands-on approach to learning that went beyond traditional classroom boundaries.

This first year has given me the opportunity to study a subject I love, with a great social life around campus, great quality on the modules, as well as good organised and the work opportunities they offer you for a future.

Royal Holloway

You might know it as the fictional university that professor Jonathan (Joe Goldberg) teaches at in the most recent series of 'You', but I simply know it as my uni.

I've loved the last three years at RHUL, with its beautiful campus and perfect location for country side walks and easy transport links to London. It's the best place to be!

Great university

(5)·By Evinta D·Law· Jun 2023
Royal holloway is a very unique university. The founders building is old fashioned and very pretty but also has many more modern buildings like the library which is my favourite facility there. It provides comfortable areas to study in as well as a coffee shop to catch a break. The campus itself is very special and big. And the lecture halls are massive and very creative.

English Studies, Year 2

(5)·By Cyann F·English Studies· Jul 2021
Amazing! My university really pulled out all the stops to make it a fun time. They had outdoor cinemas and event nights so there was something for everyone. The student accommodation at RHUL, is some of the best I've seen. They were student friendly, cleaned regularly and very aesthetically pleasing with plenty of study space in each room. The facilities at RHUL are what drew me to the university. The sports centre is huge with many clubs, there are lots of societies, great study spaces including cafes and a wonderful modern library. The SU is also always creating new exciting events for students. For English especially, the split of lectures and seminars really helps for in depth studies. Looking at literature broadly in lectures and then more focused in seminars really aids individual learning and interests. RHUL is situated just outside London city, which is perfect for a balance of country lifestyle and city lifestyle. With great walks to Windsor and Virginia Lake, and then a 40 minute train to Waterloo, everything really is in your doorstep.
