My time at Cardiff Metropolitan University

(5)·By Shaneil G·Business· Jun 2026
I started university feeling very alone and thinking I wouldn’t enjoy it. I was incredibly wrong. Here at Cardiff Metropolitan University, I have made some amazing friends, even while living at home. I joined a union where I have met many people I connect with and love. I love my course; there is so much support, and it’s always something new and enjoyable to learn about. I have received a lot of support at Cardiff Metropolitan University from the lecturers, seminar tutors, and the careers team. Everyone is here to help you grow and be the best version of yourself. I’m really proud to be a Cardiff Met student.

Amazing

(5)·By Angel W·Medicine· Jun 2026
At first, I was very homesick, but I quickly found my way around and was always ready to stay the day. I enjoyed every minute of it; being alone has massively increased my confidence. I’m very lucky to already have good qualities for life like being responsible, organized, and punctual, so I didn’t really struggle to get things done or make friends. Being alone for the first time is always daunting, but I found a way of embracing it. I found really nice friends, so I study with them, go out with them, eat with them, and go to lectures with them. Having made friends already makes my course ten times easier because if there’s anything I don’t understand, we can always help each other out.

The accommodation I have is absolutely amazing. I was dreading it at first, but I managed to make it the most homely room ever, which makes me feel like I am at home. I like the layout; it’s easy to find my things, and having an en-suite is great because all of my toiletries can stay where they are, so it’s one less thing to worry about when living away from home.

I really enjoy going out and making even more friends outside of university. As I am not a party person, there are so many things you can try and do, and it is never boring. There’s something for everyone, which I love, so everyone can fit in and find their way around. In my opinion, nothing could be better because it’s already amazing.

Mature Student Review

(5)·By Becky·Accounting· Jun 2025
Going back into education felt really daunting; I was so nervous but knew it was a decision I had to make to achieve my career goal. Being a parent and studying has had challenges, but the university has helped in many ways get me through the past two years of my studies. Definitely a choice I am glad I decided to see through, and I have enjoyed every minute of going back to study—learning has been made interactive and fun, I have made some new friends and built my confidence too.

I have

(5)·By phoebe·Sports· Jun 2025
I’m currently doing my first year in Sport, PE and Health and it’s been great! The course so far has been very enjoyable as we have an open campus to actually apply what we have studied in seminars and lectures. The student life in Cardiff is also very good, with many places to go in the city centre like shops and food places. My accommodation, from what I’ve seen, is one of the best in my opinion as it’s right next to Cardiff Central Station and the city centre, which makes nightlife a lot easier!

Excellent

My overall university experience has been everything I imagined, and more. With Cardiff Metropolitan University, I have been able to enhance my academia, seek guidance from lecturers and support when needed, and experience a more independent lifestyle by investing in university accommodation with my student loan. I have grown as an individual, and I believe that university has sculpted me into an adult, and helped me realize that I am in control of what my future entails.

Cardiff Met experience

(5)·By Sophie W·Food / Beverage Studies· Jun 2023
My accommodation is a 20 minute walk to uni, which is also near a PureGym, aldi and big Tesco. The walk is along a beautiful river, and I really enjoy my walks into uni. I'm only in 3-4 days a week too, but still make the walk to go to the gym and go food shopping. I also live a 30 minute walk from the city centre, or a £9 Uber from town after a night out. My accommodation is nice, I have good flatmates and a nice big room.

I absolutely love my course. I study Food Science and Nutrition and i 100% made the right decision to study it. So far, I've covered modules on Food Product development, Biochemistry and Physiology, Professional Development, Food safety and Macro and Micronutrients. For the first time in my educational career, I don't ever dread it!

Cardiff met (Llandaff campus) is beautiful, very modern and clean. They have all the facilities needed, with lots of coffee shops, a big library, canteens etc. They have great kitchen facilities for my course, as well as modern lecture halls for the written parts.

My social life is good. In uni, there are opportunities to mix with other years and learn about their interests. There is also lots of effort out into making friends within your class at the beginning of university, which really helps. My accommodation also offers opportunities to meet new people, as well as groupchats and getting out there in freshers week. Nightlife is good too, even if it isn't my favourite thing to do!

I've had a very positive university experience so far, and look forward to the upcoming years.
