Animation shapes the films we watch, the games we play and the digital experiences we interact with every day. If you're passionate about storytelling, design and bringing ideas to life, this course will help you develop the creative and technical skills to create professional-quality animation for a range of digital media.
You'll explore the complete animation production process, from initial concepts and narrative development through to finished animated content. As you build your skills, you'll work across specialist areas including 2D and 3D animation, visual effects, motion capture and animation for games, film, television and immersive media.
Teaching takes place in a practical, studio-based environment where you'll learn by creating. Using industry-standard software and specialist equipment, including Wacom Cintiq Pro displays, you'll develop your ideas through hands-on projects while receiving regular feedback from industry-trained tutors.
What makes Northampton different is the emphasis on professional practice. You'll have opportunities to take part in live projects, competitions and industry events, helping you apply your learning beyond the classroom. Guest speakers have included professionals from organisations such as Aardman Animations, Ubisoft, Sony, Naughty Dog and Rare, giving you valuable insight into contemporary animation and game development.
Throughout the degree, you'll develop a blend of artistic, technical and professional skills while building a portfolio tailored to your career ambitions. You'll gain experience of taking projects from concept to completion, collaborating with others and understanding the production requirements of different media platforms and audiences.
By the time you graduate, you'll have a body of work that demonstrates your creative and technical abilities, helping prepare you for opportunities in animation, visual effects, games and the wider creative industries, as well as further study. Career-focused support and professional development are embedded throughout the course, helping you take your next step with confidence.
