The duration of the foundation element is one year, and, if you successfully pass, you will automatically progress on to the degree.<br/><br/>Civil engineering is one of the oldest engineering fields and it impacts all aspects of our daily lives. Studying a Civil Engineering degree, you could be instrumental in the functioning of many of the structures we rely upon, including skyscrapers and bridges, railways and flood defences.<br/><br/>From mega infrastructure to water transfer schemes, you can make a difference in a way that is important to you. Choose from a wide range of rewarding careers with significant earning potential, many of which will allow you to drive forward the increasingly important sustainability agenda within, for example, the construction, energy, transport, or the environmental sectors.<br/><br/><strong>Why study Civil Engineering BEng(Hons) at University of Huddersfield?</strong><br/>You’ll study the fundamental principles of statics, dynamics, materials, geotechnics, and hydraulics, with design, construction, business, and sustainability considerations.<br/><br/>In your second and third year, youll take part in our problem-based learning initiative, EnABLE (Engineering in an Activity Based Learning Environment). This allows you to work in small teams in a supportive and friendly competitive environment, solving real civil engineering problems and testing your solutions against other groups.<br/><br/>Civil Engineering graduates often find themselves at the heart of technological developments within a wide range of engineering industries. This course will provide you with flexibility in your choice of engineering career pathways after graduation. From mega infrastructure to water transfer schemes, you’ll have the chance to make a difference in a way that is important to you.<br/><br/>Within our civil engineering subject area, our degree programmes share the same second year of study, so you can leave your options open until the start of your third year.<br/><br/>In your fourth year, you can secure an industrial placement in the UK or abroad. In your final year, you’ll work on a selected individual research/design project with the support of your academic supervisor.<br/><br/>This degree will set you up to leave university with the skills you need to communicate effectively, manage projects, and work in a professional team.<br/><br/><strong>Professional Bodies</strong><br/>At Huddersfield, you’ll study the Global Professional Award alongside your degree† so that you gain valuable qualities and experiences that could help you to get the career you want, no matter what your field of study is.<br/><br/>†full-time, undergraduate first degrees with a minimum duration of three years.
