Our inspiring Chemical Engineering with Industrial Study MEng degree programme allows you to apply for an Industrial placement. A year in industry is an invaluable opportunity to take on a chemical engineering role within a company, and apply the theoretical knowledge of your degree course to real engineering problems.

Birmingham has one of the largest concentrations of chemical engineering excellence in the UK and we consistently rank among the country’s top five chemical engineering schools for research. This means our courses provide first-class opportunities to learn core technical and transferable skills from the world’s best academics in their field, as well as through industrial collaborations with leading multinational companies.

Students often return from an industrial placement with a new found confidence in their knowledge and skills. The year will give you a clear idea of what you would like to do in the future, as well as building on your professional network. Our excellent industrial links will mean that you are aware of all the latest openings, and we will guide you through the application process through CV clinics and mock interviews.

Project work – highly valued by employers – is a thread that runs throughout our degree programmes in order to create well-rounded chemical engineers. Problems are posed in a ‘real-world’ environment where decisions need to be made when data and information are scarce. As a Chemical Engineering with Industrial Study MEng student, your final-year research project will also give you the opportunity to take part in the School’s own world-leading research work, giving you an insight into how the subject is developing at the cutting edge.
